MyProfile intends to provide a solution for managing the numerous accounts and profiles that users have on the Internet. Its main purpose is to provide a unified user account, or simply ‘user profile’, which as opposed to current ‘silo’ profiles, would really be under the user’s control, on a device controlled by the user.

Glenn Jones hat den Quellcode seines Microformats-Parsers UfXtract veröffentlicht.

UfXtract is a fast and easy to use .Net microformats parser. With a few lines of code you can load and parse microformats from Urls or HTML strings. You can then extract the data directly in .Net or convert it into JSON, JSON-P or XML.

Die OpenID Community hat ja bereits erkannt dass der Otto-Normal-User einige Probleme mit URLs als Identifier hat. Das scheint das W3C aber nicht weiter zu stören.

A Web ID is an “Identifier” (an “HTTP URI” in fact), for Entity “You” [...] It looks like a URL and feels like a URL, but isn’t solely a URL, due to the inherent Identity/Access duality of HTTP scheme URIs.

The next major release of wp-openid includes a built-in OpenID provider and delegation engine. This will certainly be the most exciting feature of this release for most people, so let me explain a bit how it works. Each authorized user on the WordPress blog will have an OpenID at the author posts URL (ie. http://example.com/author/admin). Authorization to use the OpenID provider is controlled based on user roles and is managed in the main OpenID settings page.

Das Plugin kann in zwei verschiedenen Modi betrieben werden. Multi-user erstellt aus jeder Autor-URL (z.B. http://example.com/author/admin/) eine OpenID während blog-owner für Private-Blogs mit nur einem Autor gedacht ist und die Home-URL zur OpenID (z.B. http://example.com) macht:

In multi-user, the default configuration, the server supports a feature in OpenID 2.0 called OpenID Provider driven identifier selection. What this means is that ANY user on that blog can enter the home URL as their OpenID, and the OpenID provider itself will make sure that the correct identifier is returned to the relying party. The final identifier will still be something like http://example.com/author/admin/, but the user only needs to enter example.com at a relying party. If you’ve used ever used Yahoo’s OpenID provider, then you’ve probably seen how this works.

Zwei weitere spannende Features sind die Hooks, als Schnittstelle für z.B. andere Plugins…

I haven’t sat down to document them all yet, but I’m adding in more hooks for other plugins to add functionality. Want to pull profile data from FOAF instead of sreg? No problem, now you have a hook you can implement. This makes everything in the plugin much more lightweight and “loosely joined” which is always good. All of the existing non-core OpenID functionality (like SREG) is currently using these hooks.

…und die Unterstützung des OpenID-Firefox-Plugins (welches übrigens auch mit der Version 2.x funktioniert) über das DiSo XRDS-Simple Plugin.

Ich habe das Plugin bisher nur einmal ausprobiert, da es noch einige kleine Fehler hat und die Admin-Oberfläche des OpenID-Providers noch gänzlich fehlt. Trotz dieser kleinen Fehler merkt man, dass sich Will Norris für diese Version sehr viel Zeit (die er sicherlich auch hatte) genommen hat und ich bin sehr gespannt auf die fertige Version.

While hCard offers many useful properties that can be used to describe contacts, some are considered beyond the scope of the hCard specification. For example, there is no hCard property to mark up somebody’s height, or shoe size.

This is where RDFa comes in. RDFa is not a specialist format for describing people or organisations, but a more general format for describing anything. We can use RDFa to add in the extra information we want.

Um auch Community-Profile ohne Backlink-Möglichkeiten (z.B. facebook) verifizieren zu können, kam Brad Fitzpatrick (der Mann hinter Googles Social Graph API) auf die geniale Idee, den fehlenden Link mit einer qr-codierten URL in seinem Profilbild zu ersetzen.

…jetzt müssen die QR-Codes nur noch in die SG-API aufgenommen werden.

Der erste Schritt war wohl die Umstellung von reinem Flash zu mehr HTML, wahrscheinlich um Seesmic semantischer gestalten zu können (die ersten implementierten Formate sind XFN und hCards).

Aber das ist noch lange nicht alles, geplante sind unter anderem folgende Formate und offene Standards:

Open data formats:
- RDF as the foundation, and exporters to microformats, HTML, RDFa…
- We already use existing open metadata vocabularies
- FOAF (for friend management)
- SIOC (for community description)
- Dublin Core for description of resources
- In the process of using a subset of MPEG-7 ontology for video metadata.

Open identifiers:
- Public URL scheme, and standardized authentication system. Considering the use of OpenID

Open source technologies:
- Use Open Source projects wherever it’s possible.
- Open Source critical pieces of the architecture, to allow for greater long term maintainability of complex pieces of software that are not core to the business and can benefit from the community.

Ich bin echt beeindruckt und gespannt ob und wie alles umgesetzt wird…

Ist SMOB (Semantic Microblogging) das dezentrale Twitter über das in den letzten Tagen an verschiedenen Stellen nachgedacht wurde?

SMOB is a distributed / decentralised microblogging system built on RDF and Semantic Web technologies, mainly SIOC and FOAF. Currently, we have simple prototypes of a publishing and an aggregating service, less than 100 lines of PHP code each.

So, endlich komm ich neben den ganzen DataPortability und OpenID News auch mal wieder zu meinen sehr geschätzten Microformats

Yahoo! Research Barcelona bastelt mit “Yahoo! Micro Search” an einer Social/Semantic Search Engine. Yahoo! Micro Search ist aber keine reine Microformats Suche wie z.B. die Technorati “Microformats Search” sondern unterstützt (wie die Social Graph API) auch RDFa, über <link rel="me" /> verlinkte RDF Dateien wie z.B. FoaF und demnächst soll auch noch GRDDL dazu kommen (bin mal gespannt wie das aussehen soll).

Der Aufbau der Suchergebnisse ist (zumindest im Hauptteil) eher klassisch wie bei Google oder Yahoo! aufgebaut.

Im oberen Teil der Sidebar werden gefundene GEO-Daten direkt auf einer Yahoo Map dargestellt. Die unten abgebildeten Orte wurden z.B. in meinem Plazes Account gefunden.

Darunter sollen wohl gefundene hCalendar-Events mit Hilfe der Smile Timeline angezeigt werden, das habe ich aber leider nicht ausprobieren können… meine war immer leer, ich hoffe das liegt nicht an mir

Wo bei Google “nur” die Anzahl der Suchtreffer zu einem Suchbegriff angezeigt werden, listet die Micro Search genau auf wie viele davon Profile (z.B. vCards/hCards) oder Events (z.B. hCalendar) sind.

Fazit: “Yahoo! Micro Search” dient wohl in erster Linie dazu Google einen Schritt voraus zu sein und ein Pendant zu der “Social Graph API” zu schaffen… und wenn schon, ich mag die Idee. Man sollte sich in Zukunft nur im klaren sein, dass arglos veröffentlichte Microformats demnächst auch alle gefunden (und meist auch dessen Autor zugeordnet) werden können…
